From the desk of the Chair Statements

Dear Members of the ICMEMOHRI Community,
I hope this New Year brings you joy, exciting adventures, and meaningful discoveries.
As I work on our 2024 Year-End Report—due in just a few weeks and set for release to the membership early next month—I wanted to take a moment to share a few updates with you.
Since our 2024 conference in Rwanda, a small group of ICMEMOHRI members has been brainstorming ways to nurture the connections formed during the event, especially with the young artists we met. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to share them by email.
I also hope you’ve had a chance to read the Minutes from the 2023 Expert Meeting with Ukrainian museum colleagues, which was held in partnership with ICETHICS. While it took longer than expected to finalize the publication, this delay ensured that all participants could review and refine the content. Special thanks to Teresien Da Silva for her outstanding work in compiling and sharing the minutes with the membership. The document offers critical insights into the impact of the war on museums, their staff, and the communities they serve, while also highlighting the determination and resilience of our Ukrainian colleagues.
By now, you should have received information about our upcoming ICMEMOHRI Symposium, “Fakes and False Histories”, scheduled for June 2–5, 2025, in Paris. Hosted by the Memorial de la Shoah, the event will feature site visits around the city. This is a timely and important topic, and I encourage you to consider submitting a proposal.
Planning for the November ICOM Triennial is also well underway. We are collaborating with ICCOSTUME and ICMUSIC to develop engaging sessions for members of our three International Committees. While the ICOM Secretariat has centralized much of the event coordination, including registration, hotels, and calls for papers, our ICMEMOHRI Secretary will also provide updates tailored specifically for our members.
Additionally, I am pleased to announce the formation of a Communications Committee, led by Massimiliano Azzolini, ICMEMOHRI Secretary. Raúl Fernández San Miguel will serve as Social Media Director, and Elisa Bailey will contribute on our Newsletter. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the committee, please contact us at secretary.icmemohri@icom.museum.
Finally, as 2025 is an election year, I encourage you to start considering running for office. While it may seem early, now is the perfect time to begin thinking about this opportunity. Serving this dynamic and creative International Committee is a tremendous honour. The challenges are great, but so are the rewards.
