Museums in Ukraine Facing War, Civil Unrest, and Conflict. Expert Meeting Minutes Meeting

We are happy to present the minutes of Museums in Ukraine Facing War, Civil Unrest, and Conflict, the Expert Meeting organized by ICMEMOHRI and ICETHICS, held one year ago in Amsterdam. Due to limited space at the venue, many interested parties could not attend in person. Therefore, instead of posting a summary, we have chosen to present the discussions in a format that highlights the key points while preserving the flow of conversation. Certain highly sensitive comments have been omitted to respect the speakers’ privacy.

The meeting was grounded in the principles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, particularly Article 27, which affirms the right to participate in the cultural life of the community. This right is under constant threat in many regions due to war and the resulting damage, destruction, and looting of cultural heritage. The discussions offered a profound exchange of insights, showcasing our Ukrainian colleagues’ resilience, creativity, and determination in the face of adversity.

Our shared commitment is to continue supporting Ukrainian museums and cultural institutions, and we are actively exploring ways to expand this support.

ICMEMOHRI extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this Expert Meeting. Their names are acknowledged in the document.
