International Online Congress “Museums, Memories and Democracies” November 10, 17 and 24, 2026 Meeting
The congress brings together researchers and professionals from museums and memory sites in Spain, Latin America and other countries to discuss the role of museums in building memory and defending democracy. It is organized into three afternoon sessions, with short presentations and a question and debate round at the end of each day.

Museums under siege from denialism and lack of funding, memories of leprosy in the Brazilian Amazon, migration museums in Spain, and theatrical tours at the Museum of Memory of Rosario, Argentina. -
Tuesday, November 17 (welcome event UCM-ICMEMOHRI, 5:00 PM).
Research on collections and provenance, musealisation of conflict under judicial order in Colombia, documentary cartographies of the last dictatorship in Rosario, and the 68 Memorial and Social Movements in Mexico. -
Tuesday, November 24 (welcome event UCM-ICOM-España, 5:00 PM).
Contested memories in post-conflict Guatemala and Colombia, border museums on the Portuguese-Spanish frontier, online memorialisation of memory sites, and heritage by dispossession.
Times are given in Central European Time (Madrid).

Organised by ICOM-España, ICOM-LAC, ICMEMOHRI and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Scientific coordination: Inmaculada Real López (UCM).
This congress derives from the MUSMEMO Project: Towards the democratisation of memorial heritage in today’s museums (CNS2024-154348), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency.
