We are happy to present the minutes of Fake and False Histories, the Symposium organized by ICMEMOHRI and hosted by the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris on 2–3 June 2025. The event brought together museum professionals, scholars, and educators from around the world to discuss the challenges of authenticity, falsification, and manipulation of history in museums and memorials.

Due to limited capacity at the venue, many interested participants could not attend in person. Therefore, instead of providing a brief summary, we have chosen to present the highlights in a format that reflects the key discussions while preserving the flow of the meeting.

The symposium addressed the growing concern of false narratives and distortion of history, both deliberate and accidental, and their implications for the integrity of cultural institutions. Across two days of intensive dialogue, speakers examined the role of museums as spaces of truth-telling, education, and ethical reflection.
